Plumbing Service Area Around Helena, AL
Helena is our home base. The same 24/7 line also dispatches to Pelham, Alabaster, Chelsea and Calera.
Five places, one phone number
Helena Express Plumbing dispatches from Helena in Shelby County and reaches four neighboring towns: Pelham, Alabaster, Chelsea and Calera. Every town is served by the same (855) 575-2890 line, open 24 hours a day. Each town below has its own page covering ZIP codes, local utilities and what to have ready before a plumber arrives.
We do not promise a fixed arrival time for any town. Distance, weather, traffic and call volume all change from night to night, so the dispatcher gives you a realistic estimate for your address when you call. Same-day appointments are offered when available.
| Town | ZIP codes | Water and sewer to ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Helena | 35080 | City of Helena Utilities Board, (205) 663-1670 |
| Pelham | 35124 | City of Pelham Water Works and its sewer department |
| Alabaster | 35007, 35114 | Alabaster Water Board and City of Alabaster Environmental Services |
| Chelsea | 35043 | Shelby County Water Services, with sewer that depends on the address |
| Calera | 35040 | Calera Water Works Board and the city sewer office |
The table is a starting point, not a promise about your specific address. Utility boundaries do not always follow town lines, so when a leak or backup might be on the utility's side of the meter, call the utility named for your address. If it is on your side, call us. A leak detection visit can settle the question when it is unclear.
Home base on Highway 17
Helena sits in Jefferson and Shelby counties with the Cahaba River and Buck Creek running through it. Population grew from 3,918 in 1990 to 20,914 in 2020, so most houses outside Old Town are newer than 1990. For plumbing, that means water heaters that are aging out, fixtures from builder-grade packages and sewer laterals that have been quietly working for decades.
Water and sewer come from the City of Helena Utilities Board at (205) 663-1670. Neighborhoods we get asked about include Old Town Helena, Dearing Downs, Riverwoods and Old Cahaba. See the homepage for emergency plumbing in Helena, or the contact page for our address and what to have ready.
Next door along AL-261
Pelham, AL is linked to Helena by AL-261 and uses ZIP code 35124. The City of Pelham Water Works supplies water at 205-620-6420, and the Pelham Water Works Sewer Department handles sewer. The 2020 census counted 24,318 residents, which makes it the largest of our neighboring towns after Alabaster.
If a plumbing job in Pelham needs a permit, the Building Department at 3162 Pelham Pkwy, 205-620-6495, says all contractors must apply through the city's Citizen Access Portal. Knowing that before you hire helps you ask the right question. Always write Pelham, AL when searching, since other states have Pelhams too.
Just south of Helena
Alabaster, AL lies just south of Helena and uses ZIP 35007 for most addresses and 35114 for the Maylene area. It is the biggest neighbor, with 33,284 residents in the 2020 census. Water comes from the Alabaster Water Board at 205-663-6155, and sewer service is handled by City of Alabaster Environmental Services.
The Alabaster Water Board's 2023 water quality report lists readings from 86 to 195 ppm depending on the source. If you are dealing with scale in a water heater, ask the board which supply serves your address. The city's Building and Engineering Services office is at 1953 Municipal Way, (205) 664-6823.
East of Helena
Chelsea, AL sits east of Helena in ZIP 35043 and has grown from 2,949 residents in 2000 to 14,982 in 2020. Water comes from Shelby County Water Services, and sewer service for some addresses is private, so check which utility serves your address before you call anyone about a sewer problem.
Permits in Chelsea go through Chelsea Building Services and Shelby County Development Services at 205-620-6650. That split matters if your job needs inspection. Ask the plumber how they handle permits and confirm with the right office.
The outer ring
Calera, AL uses ZIP 35040 and is the farthest town in our regular service area. The 2020 census counted 16,494 people, up 42 percent from 2010. The Calera Water Works Board supplies water, the city sewer office is at 2273 5th Street, 205-668-3880, and the city runs its own natural gas department.
Calera Building Inspections at 1074 10th St., 205-668-3638, lists plumbing inspections that include drain, water and gas tests. The Geological Survey of Alabama notes that this part of Shelby County has a history of sinkhole development and counts water or sewer line leaks among the non-geologic causes of ground depressions. A sudden wet or sunken patch in a yard deserves a call.
The same services everywhere
Every town gets the full list of services, including drain cleaning, water heater repair, water heater replacement, leak detection, sewer line repair and burst pipe repair. The services page groups them by problem type.
Emergency calls work the same way in all five places. You call, the dispatcher gives you safe steps, a licensed plumber is sent and you hear a clear price before work starts. After-hours and weekend calls are answered by the same line.
Ask before you assume
Neighborhoods between these towns, and addresses near the borders, often fall inside the area even when the town name differs from the mailing city. Call (855) 575-2890, give the street address, and the dispatcher will confirm whether we can send someone.
If your address is outside the regular service area, the dispatcher will tell you plainly rather than leave you waiting. Meanwhile, use the about page to learn how to verify any Alabama plumber's license before you hire.
